One more thing to read...
It’s finally quiet in the house.
You plan to go to bed soon.
You pick up your phone to check an email, then swipe to check socials.
There’s a post about parenting in perimenopause. You laugh. You scroll on.
There’s a post about e-bikes and teens, and you read it because this one is important.
Then a post about teens and social media, ADHD, narcissism, entitlement, health and nutrition…
…and an hour later you’re feeling agitated and annoyed that you didn’t go to sleep when you’d planned to.
AI promised to give us more time.
But when it comes to content, it’s filling our brains with more information, more of the time and eating into our downtime.
I have already shared two blog posts about the ways I limit AI in my business and life.
I’ve already shared:
I don’t let AI speak for me.
I don’t use AI to shortcut my thinking process.
And the last “rule” I have is:
I slow down the AI input to my speed and capacity.
An overwhelming amount of AI-generated psychological commentary about relationships is coming through social media.
Telling you how to diagnose a person rather than understand them.
Making you fearful.
Pushing on pain points to try to get and keep your attention.
I’m seeing more parents overwhelmed by knowledge but struggling to understand the teen they have in front of them.
Struggling to find the time, energy or capacity to have the conversations and connection they want to have with their teen.
We’re being bombarded with information.
And the more we take in, the less space we seem to have to stop, think and process what actually matters.
We need to protect our brain space and sleep for the relationships that matter the most.
Your relationship with your teen is one of the most important things you give them to help build their resilience now and into the future.
Let’s get back to the real together.
Slow down the feed.
Get your downtime back and reconnect with what really matters.
